Motorsport: NZ's Scott McLaughlin makes 'virtual' IndyCar debut

Kiwi Supercars driver Scott McLaughlin has had another taste of IndyCar racing, and he didn't even need to leave the house.

With the Indycar schedule put on hold due to the coronavirus, drivers have taken to a simulator to keep them racing competitively.

McLaughlin - who has won the last two V8 Supercars championships -  will be racing in this year's IndyCars circuit as well as the Supercars championship back in Australia, and took part in the first race of the 'iRacing' series on Sunday morning (NZT).

The Kiwi finished fourth, which is a result he was relatively pleased with.

"It wasn't too bad," McLaughin on Twitter.

"It was good fun and really cool to be a part of.

"I hope it took a bit of negativity away from the world and you could just enjoy it and forget about the rest of the stuff.

"We'll be back in the real thing soon."

The 2019 Bathurst champion will also contest the Supercars iseries - the V8 version of virtual racing - which gets underway April 8.
