Coronavirus: Kiwis savour return to sports with drop to Alert Level 3

Some of New Zealand's Olympians have returned to their field of dreams, after more than a month in lockdown.

Golf, swimming and surfing are among the few sports allowed at Alert Level 3, which has been welcomed by athletes at all levels.

Tee times were in huge demand as soon as the lockdown ended.

"They went live at a set time in the evening and within 2-3 minutes, all of the times were taken," said Remuera Golf Club president Chris Davies.

Surfers were also eagerly awaiting sunrise and our elite were just as excited.

"Today is the day," said Kiwi pro Ella Williams. "We've come out of Level 4 and we're into Level 3 - that means we can get back into the water and I cannot wait."

Williams joined her family bubble for a surf on Tuesday morning and despite the small swell, seemed to relish it as much as Olympic qualification.
