Opie Bosson has been rewarded with staying in Australia rather then coming back to New Zealand for the lockdown with a win in the Australian Derby, riding Quick Thinker to group one glory.

The Derby win handed Kiwi trainer Murray Baker his fifth win as a trainer, with him winning the race alongside Andrew Forsman. Baker now has as many wins as the late Bart Cummings. It's Bosson's second Derby win.

Quick Thinker edged out Zebrowski in the $1 million race, with Eric the Eel flying home for third.

Jockey James McDonald continued the Kiwi dominance with a win in the TJ Smith Stakes on the race favourite Nature Strip.

The sprinter led from the start to finish and was able to hold off what was widely-regarded as one of the deepest fields in recent memory.

The TJ Smith Stakes win gives Kiwi trainer Chris Waller his 110th group one victory.

Nature Strip beat home last year's winner Santa Ana Lane and Redzel who came third.

Bosson finished fourth in the feature Doncaster Mile riding Kiwi star Melody Belle
