Todd Greenberg received a severance package in excess of AU$650,000 after quitting as NRL chief executive.

Australian rugby league writer Danny Weidler has revealed the sum in his column in the Sun Herald.

The report reveals Greenberg's annual salary was AU$1.2 million, with six and a half months remaining on his contract.

Neither Greenberg or Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V'landys refused to discuss the payout when pushed by Weidler.

''We have signed a deed of agreement, which is commercial in confidence," Greenberg said.

"It's not appropriate that I discuss Todd's contract. All I will say is that I wish him well," V'landys told Weidler.

Greenberg's tenure at the helm of the NRL lasted a touch over four years. Chief commercial officer of the NRL, Andrew Abdo is the acting CEO and Nine reports he is the front-runner for the permanent job.
