Netball's Quad Series has been cancelled due to COVID-19 but the Silver Ferns and Australia Diamonds intend to play the annual Constellation Cup test series later this year, pending travel restrictions.

The Netball Quad Series which features South Africa, England, the Diamonds and Silver Ferns, was due to be played in both New Zealand and Australia in September, but global  travel restrictions make it an impossible commitment.

Instead, Netball New Zealand and Netball Australia will continue to look at staging the  Constellation Cup following the completion of their respective domestic leagues in the hope a 'trans-Tasman bubble' is formed by then.

The 10-week ANZ Premiership is due to start on June 19, while Australia's domestic competition will start on August 1 and run through to November.

Netball New Zealand Head of High Performance Keir Hansen said it was disappointing to not have the Netball Quad Series this year, but that player and fan safety was the number one priority.

"All four participating nations have together looked at various scenarios to see if we could make it work," said Hansen. "However we all agreed that due to the impact of COVID-19 on international travel, cancelling the 2020 Netball Quad Series scheduled for September was the only option."

Instead, they'll look at staging a similar event to last year's Cadbury Netball Series, where the Silver Ferns got the chance to face their male counterparts ahead of the Netball World Cup.

"Last year we hosted a very successful Netball Series that included the NZ Men, and an All Stars side.

"We are now considering all our options for our Cadbury Netball Series which would likely be scheduled in October and depending on travel restrictions then the Constellation Cup once Australia finish their domestic League."

The Constellation Cup was originally scheduled for October, with two matches to be played in each country, but with the Aussie netball season finishing in November, it likely won't take place until December.

Australia currently hold the Constellation Cup despite drawing last year's series.

New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and England will continue to meet regularly whilst monitoring the impact of COVID-19 and to determine when and how the four nations will be able to schedule the next Netball Quad Series.
