Nathan Cleary is facing a hefty fine and a two-match ban for being untruthful in dealings with the NRL integrity unit.

The Penrith Panthers star has been investigated for breaking social-distancing rules during Australia's COVID-19 lockdown period.

Cleary and flatmate, fellow Panther Tyrone May, were caught trying to cover up the extent of a social-distancing breach, when a contradictory social media video was released on social media.

Cleary was originally fined $10,000 with a one-match ban, when pictures emerged of him with several women on his couch last month.

That fine is set to be increased to $30,000, with the NRL alleging Cleary lied to the integrity unit about the amount of time the women were in his house, evidenced by two TikTok videos that were discovered soon after.

Cleary and May told investigators the women were only at their residence for 10 minutes, while they waited for an Uber.

The match suspension will kick in on May 28, when the revamped competition resumes.

May is already serving a four-match suspension for filming sex tapes without the consent of the woman involved.

The 23-year-old sat out the entire 2019 season, while he faced the charges in an Australian court.

Cleary is the son of former Warriors fullback and Panthers coach Ivan Cleary, who has yet to comment.
