Skateboarding: Eleven-year-old Gui Khury completes first ever 1080 on a vert ramp

A 11-year-old Brazilain has just beaten a record set by skateboard legend Tony Hawk 21 years ago.

On Saturday (NZ time) Gui Khury became the first person to cleanly land a 1080 (three rotations) on a vertical ramp.

The incredible feat was posted on his Instagram account by his parents.

"1080!!! I have no words to explain what just happened," the caption reads.

Last year, Khury made history when he became the youngest athlete to land a 900 (two and a half  revolutions) at the X Games.

In 1999, Hawk made history when he pulled off the world's first 900 at the X Games, aged 31. He attempted the trick 10 times before landing it.

Hawk said completing the trick was  the "biggest moment of his competitive career".

Other skaters have landed 1080s in the past, with American Mitchie Brusco even making the 1260, but they'd been completed on a 'mega ramp'  which enables athletes to gain more speed to tackle tough and extreme tricks.

Skateboarding has become more popular over the years, soon to debut at the Tokyo Olympics, which have been pushed back to 2021 due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.

However, there will be no vert skating in Tokyo with street and park disciplines available to athletes.
