ANZ Premiership: Silver Ferns honours beckon for rising Central Pulse star Maddy Gordon

Twenty-year-old Maddy Gordon is turning heads on the netball court, earning most valuable player in her second ANZ Premiership start for the Central Pulse against the Northern Stars.

"I really wanted to show what i can do this year and it was really cool to show it during that game," Gordon tells Newshub.

Her performances have definitely caught the eye of Silver Ferns captain Ameliaranne Ekenasio.

"I've said it to someone before and I really do believe that Maddy's is going to be a Silver Fern," Ekenasio says.

"Especially if she keeps a really open mindset and a willingness to learn and try new things. I think she's going to go so far."

Gordon was a member of the Silver Ferns development side last year, and wants to make the next step.

"She's so young it's almost scary how far she's going to go," Ekenasio adds.

"Absolutely, I think Maddy can go all the way," Pulse coach Yvette McCausland-Durie says. she's a pretty exciting prospect."

A talented player who's eager to improve like Gordon makes for a dream teammate, says Ekenasio.

"It's pretty awesome to play with her," she says "She's like a sponge. I definitely do throw a lot at her to try and see how it goes."

And it seems to be going well. The defending champions are unbeaten after two games heading into Monday's clash with the Mystics.

"I think we are very strong this year and I think it will be very cool to see where we can take that," says Gordon.

Gordon looks to be a  star in the making in a side that's once again looking like the one to beat, as they chase back-to-back ANZ Premiership titles.
