Netball: Netball NZ considering return to home venues for ANZ Premiership

Netball New Zealand is reconsidering its single-venue format for the ANZ Premiership.

All six teams are set to play in Auckland for the 10-week competition, with the Central Pulse, Mainland Tactix and Southern Steel all taking weekly charter flights north to compete at Mt Wellington's Auckland Netball Centre.

But with the move to COVID-19 Alert Level 1 on Tuesday, that may well change, according to Netball NZ chief executive Jennie Wyllie.

"We're looking at how we might possibly put some teams back into their own home venues so they can play in front of their own crowds," Wyllie tells Newshub.

"But obviously, every option we look at... the viability of it needs to be considered."

Venue availability and transport logistics will also be key factors in determining the way forward, but discussions with the clubs over a return home are well underway, Wyllie confirms.

Regardless what decision is made, the first few rounds will be played in Auckland, where they're currently working to ensure fans can attend the opening round of games on June 19.

"We're really excited that we can open the doors, get people back watching netball and have that amazing atmosphere as we go into the first round."
