NRL 2020: Cameron Smith leads Melbourne Storm past Newcastle Knights

  • 13/06/2020

Captain Cameron Smith has put on a vintage performamnce, guiding the Melbourne Storm to a 26-12 win over the Newcastle Knights.

While Newcastle impressed with a 34-18 win last weekend, the game against Melbourne was seen as yet another chance to prove their quality

But a poor first-half completion rate and two try-assists from Smith saw Melbourne take a 18-2 lead into the break.

Despite a fast finish by the Knights, Melbourne ultimately held on to claim victory and move into second spot on the NRL ladder.

A late penalty goal in the second half proved costly, as Melbourne pushed eight points ahead.

The decision took the energy out of the Knights as Kiwis international Brandon Smith sealed the win with a try in the 78th minute.
