NRL 2020: Craig Bellamy blasts inconsistent Storm after defeat to Panthers

NZ Warriors may be in for a tough match against Melbourne Storm next week, with Craig Bellamy blasted his side after their 21-14 defeat to the Penrith Panthers.

The Storm slumped to their second loss of the season, as the Panthers stamped their premiership credentials in arguably their best performance of the campaign so far.

The Panthers took an early lead and the Storm levelled things up, before a lapse in concentration saw Penrith regain the lead, when VIliame Kikau charged through uncontested to catch a Nathan Cleary kick and score.

"That try summed it up," Bellamy says. "Nobody was within five or six metres when he caught the ball, and it's not like he had to run 60m.

"We weren't good enough all night and even when it got to 14-all, I didn't think we were coming home over the top.

"We were outplayed, out-enthused and out-aggressed. I'm not quite sure to make of our performance to be honest.''

Bellamy hopes his side can bounce back, when they host the Warriors next weekend in a crucial game for his side .

The Storm sit fifth on the NRL ladder, but Bellamy is concerned about his team's inconsistent performances this year.

"We don't want to be that team, but that's the team we were tonight. We've been up and down like a yo-yo so far.

"I'm not sure what's coming this week or this half - that's a bit confusing for me and it's not what we usually are.

"We've got a lot of new players in there - a few younger guys - and I think they know what we want to be, but they've got to decide what they want to be and do something about it."

Meanwhile, Panthers coach Ivan Cleary is delighted with the win, as they jump to third on the standings.

"It's always nice to get the notch on the belt when we play the best teams," he says.

"It's a great achievement to beat Melbourne at any time. The boys are pretty happy."
