NRL: Stunning Sione Katoa try lifts Cronulla Sharks to dominant win over Manly Sea Eagles

Cronulla Sharks winger Sione Katoa's second-half four-pointer is being hailed as one of the tries of the revamped NRL season.

Led by a solid performance from Kiwi playmaker Shaun Johnson, the Sharks dismantled Manly Sea Eagles 40-22 in Gosford on Sunday.

But the headlines went to Chad Townsend and Katoa for the 54th-minute stunner that included a miraculous catch and pass from the former NZ Warriors standoff.

Katoa's putdown while in the air was centimetre-perfect, demonstrating the skills that have landed him eight tries from seven games this season.

"Oh wow, how good," said NRL legend Peter Sterling, during the Nine Network broadcast of the clash.

"That is just beautiful. Don't forget, it's greasy conditions and the rain is falling!"

The Sharks win was their second straight and following a scratchy start to the season, the 2016 NRL champions are back in the playoff hunt, just two points outside the top eight.

Tigers thrash Bulldogs

In Sydney, Wests Tigers completed their third straight win, hammering the hapless Canterbury Bulldogs 34-6 at Bankwest Stadium.

Wingers David Nofoaluma and Tommy Talau shone with two tries each, while Melbourne Storm loanee hooker Harry Grant was another standout, beating four defenders to score a try after a Bulldogs error.

The victory lifts the Tigers to sixth spot, vindicating coach Michael Maguire's decision to axe playmaker Benji Marshall earlier this month, after a shock loss to Gold Coast Titans.

"It's the 80 minutes that we'd been talking about," Maguire said. "It's how we back it up now.

"Obviously, we've been speaking about it for quite some time. We've been able to do that, but it's what you do next that's the big thing that matters to all of us."

The Bulldogs remain rooted to the bottom of the ladder with just one win.
