NRL 2020: Maika Sivo's four-try haul lifts Parramatta Eels to crushing win over the North Queensland Cowboys

A four-try haul from Fijian flyer Maika Sivo has propelled Parramatta Eels to a crushing 42-4 NRL win over North Queensland Cowboys.

The high-flying Eels ran riot over the Cowboys, re-igniting their premiership charge, after a tough loss against the Roosters and a nail-biting win against the Canberra Raiders a week ago.

Eels debutant Jai Field was also a standout, replacing star halfback Mitchell Moses, who is set for a six-week injury stint on the sidelines.

But Sivo stole the headlines - so much so that the sparse Bankwest Stadium crowd roared "Si-vo, Si-vo", as the barnstorming winger terrorised the Cowboys at will.

"He's going well," coach Brad Arthur says. "He just had to work on some of his timing and depth there ,and put himself in a better position to give some of those guys inside him an opportunity to make those passes to him.

"He got a couple of nice passes off 'Gutho' tonight and Laney's doing a good job of keeping defences interested as well."

Captain Clint Gutherson chimed in with a stellar effort, racking up three try assists, 250 running metres, seven tackle busts and seven goals from eight with the boot.

Cowboys coach Paul Green has lamented his team's inability to compete, describing the performance as two steps backwards.

"Some of those guys are learning in the NRL, when the game comes your way, you have to be ready to do what you have to do.

"We missed our chance down there in the first half and didn't learn our lesson at half-time. There's a lack of trust and when something goes against them, there's a bit of a lack of confidence."

In Friday night's earlier game, Canberra Raiders overcame a horror injury toll to hold off St George Illawarra Dragons 22-16 at GIO Stadium.

The Raiders cruised to a 22-0 lead with 20 minutes to play, before repelling the fast-finishing Dragons, who were chasing a third straight win.

On Saturday, NZ Warriors play Brisbane Broncos, and Wests Tigers and Penrith Panthers clash on the Central Coast.
