Israel Folau has signed a new deal with French Super League club Catalans Dragons.

The former Wallabies and Kangaroos international will remain with the side until at least the end of the 2021 season.

The 31-year-old made the code-switch back to rugby league in January, after his controversial departure from Rugby Australia for posting homophobic comments on social media.

Folau was given a career lifeline by Catalans, who appeared to be the only professional sporting franchise willing to take on the talented, but polarising star.

After signing a one-year deal, Folau was impressive in his three appearances with the club, before COVID-19 halted the competition, and the two parties have subsequently agreed to extend his deal.

"Me and my family are very excited to stay on at the club for season 2021," Folau says. "We're very grateful for the opportunity that the Dragons have given me.

"I'm looking forward to working hard, and achieving great success on the field with my team-mates and this great club."

Dragons coach Steve McNamara raves about the professionalism Folau has brought to his side and is delighted to have him on board for at least another season.

"The most impressive asset he showed in the short period before the confinement was his willingness to work hard for the team.

"On top of that, he clearly is a great athlete with a tremendous skillset. We look forward to seeing him continually improve, and have an even greater influence over the team's performances through 2020 and 2021."
