Cricket: Blackcaps will take a knee for Black Lives Matter says Kane Williamson

Blackcaps skipper Kane Williamson says the New Zealand cricket side back the 'Black Lives Matter' movement and would be willing to take a knee in support.

Speaking to NZME, Williamson is keen to promote inclusiveness when his squad returns to action next year.

During the recently completed West Indian v England test series, all players took a knee to support social justice.

Action against racism and victimisation surged this year, after the death of African American George Floyd while in police custody in Minnesota.

Formula One, English Premier League, the NBA and Major League Soccer are among many sporting events to have shown their support for the movement.

"As a team, we're right behind that cause in promoting equality," Williamson has told NZME.

"Not just in race, but in all parts of life where there are differences. Coming into the season, there will be a number of chats - and we've already had some - to encourage that movement.

"Playing at a professional level with our profile means we might be able to add more with our collective voice."

The Blackcaps next scheduled series is against Australia in January 2021.
