NRL 2020: Blake Green signs with Canterbury Bulldogs for next season

Former NZ Warriors halfback Blake Green has signed for the Canterbury Bulldogs for the 2021 NRL season.

On Wednesday, the Bulldogs confirmed the signing of Green on a one-year deal.

The 33-year-old is currently contracted to the Newcastle Knights after leaving the Warriors earlier this month, but the playmaker has been ruled out for the season after tearing his ACL over the weekend.

Green was playing just his third game for Newcastle when the injury occurred.

But Bulldogs chief executive Andrew Hill revealed Green, who played for the club in 2010, had already put pen to paper before the injury.

"Having agreed to terms three weeks ago with Blake, we believe that we have secured an excellent player and someone who has performed well wherever he has played," says Hill.

"We are confident that Blake will be able to bring a great deal of experience and leadership to our young group as an excellent game-manager.

"We feel that Blake will have a great impact on our squad next season, after undergoing a period of recovery around his current injury."

The signing of Green is the first the Bulldogs have made since appointing Trent Barrett as coach for next season. Green and Barrett also worked together at the Manly Sea Eagles.

With Green's signing, it means NZ international Kieran Foran will likely leave the club at the end of the season.
