NRL 2020: Titans star Tyrone Peachey accuses Knights opponent of using racial slur

Gold Coast Titans star Tyrone Peachey claims a Newcastle Knights player called him a "black c**t" during a tense NRL match on Friday night.

The Titans won the match 36-6 to end their season in style, but the match was overshadowed by the alleged first half incident.

It only came to light after the game, when Fox Sports microphones picked up Peachey telling referee Chris Sutton about it.

Peachey approached Sutton and said, "that backrower just called me a black c***".

Sutton didn't hear the first time and Peachey repeated himself.

Sutton told him: ""If you want to make a complaint, tell us who it is and we'll deal with it now. Tyrone, I need you to tell me if you want to go on with it or not. Do you want to deal with it or not mate?

Peachey ultimately declined to take it any further and walked away.

"OK, we can't go on with it any further then," said Sutton.

The incident comes less than a week after the NRL concluded its investigation into racial abuse directed at Panthers player Brent Naden by fans during a match against the NZ Warriors on the Central Coast last month.

Naden received a formal apology from the fans involved, the NRL chief executive saying the "game will not tolerate any form of abuse against our players - be it physical, verbal or online trolling."

The Knights or Titans are yet to comment on the latest incident.

Meanwhile, Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson is embarrassed after his side lost to the South Sydney Rabbitohs 60-8 - the club's biggest-ever loss to their arch rivals in 112 years.

The Roosters took the early lead, but they were no match for the rampant Bunnies, with wing Alex Johnston scoring five of their 10 tries.

"It hurts a lot. Very embarrassing for us," said Robinson.

"There's not much more to say than that really. To go out and perform like that is really disappointing. You can't feel much worse."

Friday night's thrashing could drop the team to a fourth place finish and see them face the Penrith Panthers in the first week of the NRL playoffs.
