Tour de France 2020: Kiwi Sam Belwey devastated after crash, as Caleb Ewan wins latest stage

Kiwi cyclist Sam Bewley admits he's "devastated" after a nasty crash ended his Tour de France campaign.

During the 10th stage, Bewley fractured his wrist in a mass crash that left several riders in agony. As a result, Bewley has been forced to abandon the Tour.

"Been thinking of something upbeat and positive to report after yesterday," he wrote on Instagram.
"But the truth is I am sore and f***ing devastated. Simple as that.

"ll miss the guys and I’ll be watching."

Bewley is now back in Spain and will require surgery on his injury.

Meanwhile, Australian Caleb Ewan has claimed his second victory in this year's Tour, when he took out a tightly contested sprint to win the 11th stage.

The Lotto-Soudal rider threw his bike forward over the line to narrowly beat triple world champion Peter Sagan, who was judged to have leaned into Belgian Wout van Aert in the final stretch and was relegated to last place in the sprinting group.

"I tried to get out at the last moment," says Ewan. "I went out quite late, it was pretty hectic.

"In the end, we're all really in the heat of the moment and we don't always think of safety. I'm sure Peter didn't mean to harm anyone.

"Maybe he shouldn't have done that."

Kiwi Jack Bauer was among the main peloton to cross the line at the same time as the winners.

Slovenian Primoz Roglic retained the overall leader's yellow jersey after a quiet day in the main bunch, with Jumbo-Visma teammate George Bennett best of the Kiwis in 30th.

Friday's 12th stage is a 218-km ride from Chauvigny to Sarran.
