Bathurst 2020: NZ's Scott McLaughlin crashes after dominant day at practice

  • 16/10/2020

Kiwi Supercars ace Scott McLaughlin has flown around the Bathurst track during Friday's practice, but lost control of his Mustang late in the session.

McLaughlin - who had already posted the fastest lap of the day - pushed his car a touch beyond its limit on one corner, grazing a wall before spinning out.

Fortunately, no significant damage was done to the vehicle.

"I just ballsed up the downshift and then that was all it was," McLaughlin says.

"You're using the engine braking so much that as soon as you miss one you're out of the groove - that's all I did.

"I tried to half-recover it but as soon as I parked the bottom arm out I was a bit of a passenger.

"I think it will be alright. The car is super racy, oh my God. It felt mega."

Holden's Bryce Fullwoood recorded the second-fastest time, with Ford's Lee Holdsworth in third.

In an eventful first-up Friday practice, two red flags were raised after Jayden Ojeda and Jordan Boys came off track in separate incidents.
