Cricket: Australia clinch Rose Bowl against White Ferns

Australia have comfortably dispatched the White Ferns in the second Rose Bowl one-day international in Brisbane to secure the trans-Tasman trophy for another year.

Although New Zealand responded valiantly, particularly with the bat, after being demolished in the series-opener, the hosts chased down their first-innings total of 252/9 in the 46th over, with four wickets to spare.

The win continues Australia's 21-year reign of dominance of the Rose Bowl, which they haven't lost since 1999.

Without injured batting star Suzie Bates, New Zealand got off to a superb start with the bat, anchored by a 93-run second-wicket partnership between Sophie Devine (79) and Amy Satterthwaite (69).

Katey Martin and Maddy Green continued the momentum until late in the innings, when Green's departure sparked a mini-collapse in the final few overs.

In response, the Australian batters flew out of the gates, led by Rachel Haynes (82) and Lanning's unbeaten century.

The White Ferns managed to stem the tide with wickets in consecutive balls from spinner Amelia Kerr, but Lanning's magnificent captain's knock of 101no ensured the hosts were never in any genuine danger of losing.

Australia have now won 20 consecutive ODI matches.

The final match of the series is scheduled for Wednesday.
