Cricket: West Indian Marlon Samuels' 'appalling' response to Ben Stokes jibe

Social media comments from former West Indies cricketer Marlon Samuels have been described as "appalling".

Samuels took aim at England's Ben Stokes for a comment during a recent interview with the BBC.

An expletive-laded Instagram post from Samuels pulled no punches on a foe he has crossed paths with before.

"No white boy could diss me in the sports and no [sic] get back diss,” says Samuels, who continues with a revolting attack on Stokes' wife.

"Look at this b*tch still thinking about me. Give me 14 days with you [sic] wife, turn har [sic] into Jamaican in 14 seconds, mate.

"None of yall knows me - that simply means it’s my f***ing superior skin tone."

The Stokes v Samuels rivalry dates back to a 2015 test series, when Samuels mocked Stokes by saluting him following a dismissal, later claiming the Kiwi-born allrounder had constantly sledged him.

The two clashed again during the 2017 T20 Cricket World Cup, but the old feud was rekindled by Stokes' comments to the BBC, after he recently visited Christchurch to see ill father Gerard and spent 14 days in quarantine.

"I posted a few Instagram stories and some of the England boys were messaging me, asking, 'What it's like?'," Stokes tells the BBC.

"I was saying, 'It wasn't the most enjoyable thing you ever have to do, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy'.

“I text my brother saying the same thing and my brother asked, 'You wouldn't even do that to Marlon Samuels?' I said, 'No, it's that bad - that's how tough it was'."

Samuels' post has been vilified in the cricketing community, with former England captain Michael Vaughan particularly scathing.

“This is appalling Marlon [Samuels]," Vaughan wrote on Twitter. "We are trying to stamp out racism!!

"A bit of banter by ⁦[Stokes] should not lead to this."

Samuels recently reposted an article of Stokes' 2017 run-in with the law, when he was involved in a fight outside a Bristol nightclub that saw him charged, but found not guilty of affray.

"No no no, this can't be true - Ben is such a nice guy," Samuels sarcastically posted on Instagram. "He would never fight in the streets of England.

“No way, stop telling lies on Ben."
