In the standout game of an action-packed Saturday in the Mitre 10 Cup, Auckland completely outclassed the previously table-topping Tasman Marko. 

The blue and white hoops produced their best first-half performance of the season, running in four tries to lead 24-0 at the break. 

Auckland opened the scoring from a perfectly executed lineout drive, when Adrian Choat crashed over in the 21st minute. 

Ten minutes later, they extended their lead through prop Marcel Renata, who crashed over after great build-up play from his fellow Auckland forwards. 

AJ Lam scored the try of the day after wing Salesi Rayasi made a midfield break before offloading to Harry Plummer who drew in the last defender, before handing off to Lam to score in the corner.

Tumua Manu capped off a terrific first-half for the homeside in front of a sparse crowd at Eden Park. A poor up-and-under from Auckland worked out perfectly. 

Lock Jack Whetton picked up the loose ball, galloped downfield before running in Manu who crashed over in the corner. 

Auckland started the second-half where they finished the first. Plummer executed a perfect cross-field kick to Rayasi, who gobbled it up before dotting down close to the corner flag

Tasman got two late tries to put respectability into the scoreline through Alex Nankivell and Quentin MacDonald. 

Auckland will play in the ‘battle of the bridge’ next week against North Harbour, while Tasman will look to rebound against Southland. 

FULLTIME - Taranaki gains a vital win down in Invercargill. A very scrappy contest with both sides strong on defense with just two tries in the contest. Both sides looked dangerous on attack at times but were let down by unforced errors. 

Taranaki two tries came through O’Neil and Jacob Raumaitayuki-Kneepkens who scored a great individual try to put the result beyond doubt.

 

79 min - From the lineout, Southland maul towards the line where Taranaki collaspe the maul and the ball doesn't come out meaning Taranakai will have a scrum 5m out from their own line. Southland dominate the scrum and win a penalty. They will have a shot at goal and Dyer drags it wide as the siren goes.  

78 min - From the lineout, Southland set the maul. Southland go out to the backs where Taranaki gives away a penalty. Southland will go for lineout 5m out. 

76 min - Taranaki get lucky at the lineout. A messy lineout has resulting in Southland knocking on. Scrum 7m out. Taranaki give away a free-kick for pre-engaging. Southland clear down to halfway and win a penalty at the ruck and will have a lineout 10m out. 

74 min - Taranaki running down the clock well just keeping tight with the forwards and after seven phases win a penalty for Southland being offside.They will have a lineout 7m out. 

70 min - Southland building their attack around the halfway line before Moorby makes a mini-break but his offload goes to ground. Scrum Taranaki 

68 min - Southland have a lineout just 20m out from Taranaki's line. Southland build their attack and after five phases knock the ball on.

67 min - YELLOW CARD TARANAKI - Southland win a penalty for a shoulder charge by Taranaki replacement prop Chris Gawler and the referee shows him a yellow card. 

66 min - Howley puts in a grubber kick into dangerous area but regathered by Potroz and Taranaki clear down to their own 22m line. 

65 min - Southland counter attack through Latu who breaks into the backfield before offloading Moorby. Southland gets inside Taranaki's 22 and are looking dangerous.

58 min - TRY TARANAKI - A great team try for Taranaki. Mitch Brown steals the lineout to win the ball. After a couple of phase, Perofeta throws a great cut-out pass to Jacob Raumaitayuki-Kneepkens who brekas. He then puts in a chip kick which he regathers and goes into score in the corner. Potroz converts from out wide. 17-9 TAR

57 min - Southland clear from their own 22 but only down to Potroz who breaks into the back field, before giving it to Wainui who is brought down just short. But at the next phase Taranaki give away a penalty. 

54 min - After a scrappy period of play in southland's half, Eade clears for touch and Taranaki will have a lineout on Southland's 10m line. From the lineout Southland gives away a penalty and will have a lineout on the 22m line. Taranaki give away free-kick for not throwing ball straight.

51 min - From the scrum, Taranaki turn the ball over and attack dangerously but a Perofeta throws forward pass. Scrum Southland. From the scrum Eade clears down to just short of the 10m line. 

49 min - From the lineout, Southland collaspe the maul to win the ball back. Scrum Southland just inside their own 22.

HALFTIME - A very scrappy first half, with plenty of errors, penalties, and kicking. Taranaki takes a one-point lead into the break thanks to a Reuben O’Neil try who crashed over from close range.

40 min - Southland give away a free-kick at the lineout for having two halfbacks. Taranaki will have a scrum on Southland's 10m line. Taranaki build their attack just short of Southland's 22 before Southland give away penalty. Paytroz will have a shot at goal but it hits the post and Southland take it into touch to end first half.

Southland have made six changes to their starting side with three in the tight five and three in the backs. 

Props Ethan de Groot and Siate Tokolahi come into the starting XV, while Ray Tataf replaces the injured Manaaki Selby-Rickit. In the backs halfback Raniera Takarangi and wings Rory van Vugt and Penikolo Latu come into the team.

Captain Mitchell Brown will return to the starting side for the first time since round one, replacing Mitchell Crosswell at blindside flanker in one of three changes made by coach Willie Rickards.

Veteran prop Ben May has been handed a two-week suspension for dangerous play during the Auckland match.

His absence sees Reuben O’Neill switch sides in the front row with Jared Proffit returning to loosehead prop.

The only other change comes in the second row where teenage lock Josh Lord replaces Kaylum Boshier, who moves to the bench.

FULLTIME - Auckland has completely outclassed Tasman to move themselves to the top of the premiership table. 

Auckland produced a brilliant first-half performance but was helped by Tasman putting in their worst performance in years. Auckland ran away five tries to one winners with Harry Plummer having a standout game. The only negative was a bad injury to lock to Jack Whetton who was stretchered off.

For Auckland, Head Coach Alama Ieremia has made three changes to the team that came back from 18  points down to stun Taranaki in Inglewood on Saturday.

Halfback Jonathan Ruru comes back into the starting lineup after injecting his energy off the bench last weekend.

Zarn Sullivan will get his first start of the season at fullback in place of Jordan Trainor, who is unavailable due to injury.

Hooker Mike Sosene-Feagai returns to the bench for Soane Vikena.

For Tasman, the defending champions have welcomed All Blacks wing sevu Reece on to their bench for their clash against Auckland.

The sole change to the starting side sees Kieron Fonotia slot into the No. 13 jersey.

FULLTIME - It's fulltime in the capital and Palmerston North. The Lions came away with a tough come-from-behind victory to keep their playoffs hopes alive. A late try to former All Black Julien Savea gives Wellington the victory. With the win, the Lions go into equal second in the congested premiership points table. 

In Palmerston North, defence went awal for both teams. There was tries aplenty but the Steamers proved to good for the Turbos who are still looking for their first win of the season. The Steamers ran in seven tries, five of them coming in the first half. A number of players stood out for Bay of Plenty but most notable was first-five Otere Black who ran the show for the Steamers and Joe Johnson who dominated Manawatu and got a try of his own. With the win, the Steamers will leapfrog North Harbour into 6th place.  

80 min - TRY MANAWATU - From the lineout, the Turbos work a great set-play. Manawatu came down with the ball and shaped to set a maul, before a little pop pass went away to Maile. 67 min- TRY BOP - A great try from the steamers. From the lineout just outside Manawatu's. 22, great footwork from replacement halfback Leroy Carter who beats two defenders before offloading to Trask to run 20m to score. Trask converts. 50-28 BOP.

65 min - TRY WELLINGTON - A great kick from fullback Ruben Love who is on debut goes deep into North Harbour's 22. Aoke is back there but knocks-on and Savea is on hand to regather and score to put Wellington back in front. Garden-Bachop converts from out wide. WEL 25-20.

62 min - TRY MANAWATU - From a lineout inside the Steamers 22, Manwatu set up their attacks through the fowards before going out to the backs who go close. The Turbos keep it tight with the forwards and after 8 phases flanker Johnny Galloway reaches out and scores for the Turbos. Crudan converts the try from out wide. BOP 43-28.

59 min - PENALTY WELLINGTON - A massive scrum from the Lions on Harbour's 22 and they win a penalty. Garden-Bachop will have a shot from 23m out from in front. He slots it down the middle. NH 20-18.

56 min - TRY NORTH HARBOUR - Harbour have a lineout on Wellington's 22. They set a lineout drive. it's gets momentum and Hall goes down the short side who throws a great cut-out pass to Aoake to score in the corner. Gatland nails the conversion from out wide. NH 20-15.

50 min - TRY BOP - From a lineout just inside Manawatu's half,   great pass from Black puts Webber into a massive hole and uses his speed to go 45m to score in the corner untoched. Black can't convert from out wide. BOP 43-21. 

48 min - Penalty WELLINGTON - The Lions start the second half on fire to take the lead. Wellington have been camped down in Harbour's half since the restart. The Lions win a breakdown penalty 40m out and Garden-Bachop has a shot a goal. He slots it over. WEL 15-13. 

SECOND-HALF underway in both matches

HALFTIME - It's halftime in both matches. What a match we have in Palmerston North with eight tries in the first half. In the capital, North Harbour have dominated but only ahead by one at halftime.  

40 min - BOP PENALTY. BOP win a penalty for the Turbos being offside. Black will have a shot at goal from right in front as the srien goes. BOP 38-21. 

39 min - TRY MANAWATU. Manwatu. A great run from Stewart who goes 40m before offloading to Booth who crahses over Cruden converts. BOP 35-21

38 min - TRY WELLINGTON  - Wellington have a scrum 5m. A great pass Kemara Hauiti-Parapara off the back of the scrum to Garden-Bachop who beats his defender to crash over in the corner. Garden-Bachop misses the conversion. NH 13-12

35 min - TRY BOP. The Steamers are on fire. From a lineout just outside Manawatu's 22. A great short pass from Black puts Joe Johnston into a hole and he goes over next to the posts. Black converts from next to the posts. BOP 35-14.

34 min - TRY BOP. A great counter-attack from BOP.  Trask beats the defence and gets to halfway before putting in a kick, which he is to quick for the Manawatu to defence and he regathers his own kick to scores out wide. Black converts from out wide. BOP 28-14.

33 min - TRY WELLINGTON - A great team try for the Lions. An up-and-under from Garden-Bachop is regathered by Savea who offloads to James O’Reilly who goes 20m before offloading to Fidow who is brought down 2m short. Quick ball and quick hands from the Lions finds Proctor to score in the corner. Garden-Bachop converts from out wide. NH 13-7

28 min - TRY NORTH HARBOUR. A great charge from Gerard Cowley-Tuioti who drags 15m before he is brought down just inside Wellington's 22. Gatland gets fast ball and goes for a cross-kick which is perfect for Jared Page to gather it and score in the corner. Gatland misses the conversion. NH 13-0.

24 min - TRY MANAWATU. Manawatu win a pentalty just inside BOP half and they decide to go for a lineout. They work an attack throught the backs from the lineout. A strong run Tyler Laubscher who beats the Tiatia tackle and crashes over next to the posts. Cruden converts BOP 21-14. 

20 min - TRY BOP. BOP attacking around Manawatu's 22. A great offload from Kaleb Trask to Mathew Skipwith-Garland to go 20m untouched to score under the posts. Black converts BOP 21-7. 

18 min- TRY NORTH HARBOUR. Harbour win a penalty just 5 metres out right under the posts an they decide to take a scrum. A great cut out pass from Stevenson to Tomas Aoake who offloads to Gatland to muscle his way over in the corner. Gatland conversion hits the post and misses. NH 8-0

16 min - TRY MANAWATU - An outstanding try for the Turbos. From the lineout a great wrap-around plays which commits three BOP defenders and Cruden recieves the ball in a massive hole to crash over out wide. Crudan converts his own try from out wide. BOP 14-7

14 min - PENALTY NORTH HARBOUR - Harbour win a breakdown penalty just inside Wellington's half. Gatland will have a shot from 46m out and slots it down the middle. NH 3-0

13 min - TRY BOP. The Steamers have a lineout just 5m out. They set the linbeout drive and go close. Halfback Campbell throws a great cut-out pass to Webber to crash over in the corner. Black converts from out wide. BOP 14-0

5 min - TRY BOP - A great team try for BOP. Luke Campbell makes a half break before offloading to Chase Tiatia. Who is brought down to just inside the 22. After a couple of phases a great short ball to Tiaitia crahses through a beats Milner-Skudder to score. Black converts BOP 7-0.

Kia ora, good afternoon and welcome to live updates of Saturday's four Mitre 10 Cup matches.

Due to the All Blacks test on Sunday afternoon, this weekend's schedule has changed, with two games kicking off at 2:05pm, followed by 4:35pm and 7:05pm matches.

Starting the afternoon, Manawatū host Bay of Plenty which is followed by Wellington v North Harbour and a top of the table clash between Auckland and Tasman. Rounding off the night, Southland will host Counties Manukau. 

On Friday, Hawke's Bay successfully defended the Ranfurly Shield against Northland, meaning Manawatū will challenge for the Log o' Wood next weekend.
