UFC: Dana White unfazed by Israel Adesanya's controversial post-fight antics

While UFC champion Israel Adesanya's effortless TKO against Paulo Costa left many onlookers aghast, the Kiwi-Nigerian's immediate post-victory antics almost stole the show completely.

Almost two years of relentless back-and-forth barbs culminated in a moment where 'The Last Stylebender' sealed the fight with a torrent of blows from the back and gave his nemesis a few demoralising parting 'humps'.

But as far as UFC president Dana White is concerned, that's simply the nature of the game.

"I tend to take heat for stuff like this, especially in this crybaby sensitive-type world we live in right now," White tells Newshub.

"This is the fight business - mean things are said, mean things are done. This is a tough business and if you can't handle this business, then you shouldn't be covering it."

While Adesnaya's huge fanbase revelled in the act, plenty of detractors - including UFC commentator Dan Hardy - labelled it "crass" and "unnecessary".

After having had a chance to watch the fight, Costa was left incensed, immediately demanding a rematch against "human trash" Adesanya.

"I saw his disgusting action after fight and I will not stop until I have my revenge," Costa says in an Instagram video. "[Dana White] make this rematch happen.

'It's turned into a matter of honour and I want the rematch immediately. Let's sort it out as it should be, life or death."

Given both the intensity and the longevity of the feud between the two fighters leading into their UFC 253 title fight, White says such an incident was almost inevitable.

"There was a lot of smack talk," White says. "When you have the amount of bad blood and smack talk that happened between two guys like that there's two things that can happen - they get up and shake hands and they squash it, or they do what Israel did."

White is one of many left shocked by the ease of Adesanya's second-round dismantling of Costa and the 31-year-old now has a host of options for his next bout, including a move to higher weight classes.

"If he stays focused and keeps his head on straight, he's got nothing but fun fights ahead of him now," says White.

"You've got Robert Whittaker v Jared Cannonier on Fight Island at UFC 254, he could face the winner of that.

"He could fight Jon Jones in a superfight right now. He could fight [newly crowned champion] Jan Blachowicz at light heavyweight."

Unfortunately for NZ fight fans, none of those potential match-ups are likely to take place on home soil, at least for now.

"We're basically not going anywhere until the world gets back to normal," Whte insists.

"You guys have a two-week quarantine, there's no way we could put on an event with a two-week quarantine."
