Two big rights to the body land for Tyson. Two more shots in close land for Tyson as the round ends. Tyson 10-9.

Round 3 - Tyson just misses on a big left. Jones thows out a jab as Tyson rushes in with a right. More clinching. Tyson lands a stiff shot to the body. Clash of heads but no cut thankfully. Jones lands a nive body shot in the clinch. A lot of clinching and the referee is happy for them to fight out of it. Tyson lands a left to the body ... both guys breathing heavy as the round ends. Close again but I'll give it to Tyson 10-9.

Tyson 10-9 but it was close.

5:55pm - US anthem sung by American recording artist Ne-Yo.

5:53pm - Tyson is in the ring wearing his traditional black shorts. This is crazy.

5:49pm - Michael Buffer is in the ring to call the fighters out and Roy Jones Jr is making his way into the arena.

5:46pm - A reminder - no official winner of this bout, although the WBC has assigned three judges to declare a unofficial 'winner' who will be awarded the WBC Frontline title. I will score the fight under the traditional 10-point must system just to keep some clarity around how the fight is going.

5:43pm - Jones Jr last fought two years ago and is 14-1 in his last 15 fights - the man is a true warrior, tactician and one of the most skilled ring generals to ever lace gloves.

5:38pm - Ring walks scheduled for 5:50pm so not too far away.

5:32pm - Snoop Dog smoking grass on stage while performing .... it is California of course so that's as legal as a can of Coke.

5:24pm - It's pretty crazy that the year is 2020 and I'm about to live update a Mike Tyson fight .... but then again ... this is 2020. Crazy times.

5:17pm - Jake Paul just called out Conor McGregor - cearly he has a death wish. Big difference between a former NBA player and one of the best combat sport athletes on the planet. Conor would murder that punk.

Cruiserweight fight: Nate Robinson (0-0) v Jake Paul (1-0)
Result: Paul via KO (R2)

5:11pm - We will have a bit of delay now ahead of the Mike Tyson v Roy Jones Jr fight .... a couple of musical acts to follow this fight.

5:08pm - Thankfully, Robinson is back up - he fell face first onto the canvas and it looked pretty scary there for a minute, but he's now sitting on the stool and is comminucating with his team.

Round 2 - Robinson lands a long straight left ... short right landed by Paul as they clinch again. Robinson rushes in and is starched by a huge overhand by Paul and is down. He's back up at at nine .... he walks forward again and Paul drops him with a huge right hand and Robinson is out cold. Fight over.

Round 1 - Robinson very aggressive and showing a nice jab - pretty ugly fight so far - a lot of clinching. Robinson clinching after every jab which is kinda smart as he's looking to frustrate the bigger guy. Robinson is dropped by an overgand right - he's up at eight. Was hit on the back of the head, but the punch was legally thrown - Robinson kind of ducked into it. Round ends. Newshub score: Paul 10-8

5:01pm - This will be contested over six three-minute rounds.

4:57pm - Despite been brabded as  Youtube star, Paul has legit ambition to be more than a celebrity boxer - he has trained with former UFC middleweight title challenger Paulo Costa and does train boxing several days a week at his LA base.

4:45pm - Next up we have Youtube star Jake Paul against former NBA slam dunk contest winner Nate Robinson, which is the final fight before Tyson v Jones Jr.

Light heavyweight bout - Badou Jack (22-3-3) v Blake Mckernan (13-0)
Result: Jack via unanimous decision (80-72x3)

4:44pm - Pretty dominant from the former super-middleweight world champion.

4:35pm - McKernan's body is taking an absolutley beating in this fight.

4:32pm - Jack has been the aggressor through the first six rounds, but the undefeated American is hanging in there and looks to have a fair bit of pop left in his punches.

4:08pm - Second bout of the afternoon not to far away.

Lightweight bout - Jemaine Ortiz (13-0) v Sulaiman Segawa (13-2-1)
Result: Ortiz via TKO (R7)

3:52pm - Ortiz drops Segawa with a vicious shot to the body late in round seven ... he's back up but back down seconds later and the fight is mercifully called by the referee.

3:38pm - Halfway through this one and it's pretty even so far. Ortiz is the heavy favourite, but Segawa is hanging with him and if anything he is pushing the pace.

3:24pm - Just about set for the first fight of the afternoon.

Welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the highly anticipated exhibition boxing bout between former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson and former multi-division champion Roy Jones Jr.

The bout will be held over eight, two-minute rounds, inside the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.

The California State Athletic Commission has put in place a set of rules to protect the two boxing icons - both of whom are over 50 - from inflicting serious damage on each other.

The fighters will be wearing 12 ounce gloves, while a cut to either fighter will result in the fight being called off. The CSAC has also urged both fighters to avoid going for a knockout if their opponent is visibly hurt -  try telling Tyson that.

The result will not count on either fighters' pro record, and no bets are permitted to be taken on the fight, but the WBC have three judges in place to score the bout - Vinny Paziena, Christy Martin and Chad Dawson.

On the undercard, prominent YouTuber Jake Paul, who is 1-0 in his boxing career, takes on former NBA player Nate Robinson.

Pre-fight banter: Mike Tyson takes weight advantage into Roy Jones Jr bout

Mike Tyson will take a significant weight advantage into his exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr, after both fighters hit the scales before Sunday's (NZ time) fight.

Tyson tipped the scales at 220.4lb (99.9kg), less than when he first fought Trevor Berbick for the heavyweight title in 1986.

Jones, the former four-weight world champion, just made the heavyweight limit, weighing in at  210lb (95.2kg),  although his lower weight isn't surprising, considering he spent most of his career at middleweight.

They will compete in eight two-minute rounds and the fight has already broken pay-per-view records on US broadcaster Triller.

Tyson last fought in 2005, when he lost to Kevin McBride, while Jones Jr won his last professional fight in February 2018, when he beat Scott Sigmon by unanimous decision.

After the weigh-in, both fighters took part in the traditional face-off.

Tyson, 54, is confident of winning.

"I'm pitching punches, everything else is up to Roy," he says. "If I am running anywhere, I am running right at him."

Jones doesn't want to reveal his decisive strategy for the fight.

"I can't tell you how to do it," he says. "It's going to probably look wrong, so I know if I try to tell you, it's going to sound wrong, but it's going to turn out right, trust me."

There has been confusion over the rules heading into the bout, with mixed messages over the knockdown rule, among others.

California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) executive director Andy Foster has told MMA Fighting that there will be no winner and no knockdowns, but those claims have been refuted by Triller co-owner Ryan Kavanaugh.

"Know there have been some false rumours swirling, so to be crystal clear - the WBC is scoring the fight," says Kavanaugh.

"There could be a knockout and there will be one winner. Anyone who says there is going to be no judging or no winner either does not understand the rules or has their own agenda.

"The only difference in this fight is the gloves are 12 ounces, there are eight rounds and the rounds are two minutes rather than three. That is it."
