Cricket: Trent Boult spearheads Mumbai Indians to Indian Premier League title with Man of Match performance

Blackcaps spearhead Trent Boult has starred for Mumbai Indians in the final of the Indian Premier League in Dubai.

The left-arm quick bowler struck with the first ball of the match, dismissing Delhi Capitals' Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, who edged through to wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock.

Boult also snared Indian test vice-captain Ajinka Rahane, finishing with 3/30, after claiming Shimron Hetmyer late in the innings.

The 31-year-old scooped the Man of the Match award for his efforts, as Mumbai topped the Capitals by five wickets - the Indians' fifth IPL title in eight years.

"It's nice to be contributing and getting the team off to a bit of a start," Boult says. "Obviously to have any cricket at this time of the year with everything going on... we've had a good couple of months and to get across the line tonight has definitely made it all worth it."

Indian opener and Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma guided his side to victory with 68 from 51 balls in the run chase, with the target of 157 secured with eight balls to spare.

Boult now returns home to New Zealand to prepare for the West Indies series that begins later this month.
