Queensland - Holmes, Grant & E Lee tries; Holmes 3 conversions & penalty

NSW - Tedesco & Tupou tries; Cleary 2 conversions & penalty

Second half

40th minute - Paulo runs back a long dropout. The ball goes left, but Tupou is contained.

Cleary straightens the attack, but Paulo loses the ball in a tackle and that's surely it. Friend runs the ball dead and NSW are challenging the tackle turnover.

Replays show Paulo tried to offload and lost the ball, so no strip, but Friend knocked on. Challenge is successful... but time is up.

Queensland celebrate in front of their home fans - great finish.

38th minute - NSW get another set restart and Kaufusi could have been binned for holding on in the tackle.

Cleary kicks behind the line on the last, but Gagai is there to force for a dropout.

37th minute - NSW make ground to halfway and when the ball goes right, Yeo kicks ahead and Addo-Carr is impeded, as the ball rolls dead.

He likely won't score- even if he is the fastest man on the planet (as we're repeatedly told by commentator Phil Gould) - but it's definitely a professional foul.

Allen is sent to the bin as NSW goes on attack again.

36th minute - Walker is down and out for the count, after colliding with one of his teammates. They'll have to cart him off and this break may stop the NSW momentum cold.

On the restart, Fa'asuamaleaui reaches halfway for the Maroons and Munster again kicks for Addo-Carr.

35th minute - Yeo bursts over halfway, but Cleary loses the ball in a tackle.

34th minute - Queensland gather momentum towards halfway, Munster kicks low towards Tupou, who cops three tacklers immediately.

33rd minute - The Blues have their tails up now, but Frizell struggles to his feet from a tackle. Walker reaches halfway and Cleary bombs high, no-one wants it.

32nd minute - NSW get six more tackles on attack and charge towards the line. Queensland are penalised for holding in the tackle and Cleary will kick for goal.

He slots it and we're back to within a converted try (QLD 20-14)

30th minute - Queensland go close in the corner, as Munster and Allen make space for Holmes, who can't take the final pass with the line at his mercy.

29th minute  - Capewell drives Haas back in a tackle, Cleary chips ahead, but Munster has it covered easily.

28th minute - Munster kicks high and Addo-Car leaps to claim it.

27th minute - NSW try to break out of their half, Cleary raches halfway and Trbojevic is forced to kick on the last, taken by Allen.

26th minute - TRY to NSW, Daniel Tupou

Haas and Cleary rumble towards the posts and when the ball moves left, Gutherson finds Tupou on the end of the backline, with a couple of metres to move and the line open.

Cleary converts and the game is still live (QLD 20-12)

25th minute - From the kickoff, Grant gathers the ball, but Queensland are penalised for obstruction.

NSW get another penalty quickly and now have a chance.

23rd minute - TRY to Queensland, Harry Grant

From the shadow of the posts, Grant passes from dummy half to Welch and is on hand to take the offload, stretching out to score. Replays show he barely reaches the line before he loses grasp of the ball, but it's given.

Holmes slots the conversion from right of the posts (QLD 20-6)

22nd minute - Wighton passes forward to Tupou inside his own 30 and Queensland will have another great opportunity to extend their lead.

21st minute - Munster kicks high and Addo-Carr is equal to the challenge.

20th minute - Allen takes a high kick and almost passes over Edrick Lee's outstretched arms.

19th minute - Munster kicks from his own 40 and Addo-Carr catches running towards his own line.

18th minute - From left of the posts, Holmes slots the penalty to extend the lead beyond a converted try (QLD 14-6)

16th minute - DCE is barely held up short of the line, Collins goes close, but Queensland can't find a way through. Capewell kicks, the ball bounces off an NSW defender and another falls on it from an offside position.

Holmes will line up a penalty attempt.

15th minute - Kaufusi tries to offload, but Tupou intervenes, knocking on in the process. More possession and position for Queensland.

14th minute - Dusty dropout from Cleary and Queensland quickly back inside the 30. They get another set restart.

13th minute - Allen kicks and regathers off an NSW foot for another set near the line. Friend puts a stab-kick behind the line, but Addo-Carr runs it dead for a dropout.

12th minute - Friend and Grant are both on the field together, giving Queensland more playmaking ability.

11th minute - Frizell is penalised for a high shot on Collins and when the ball spills loose, NSW are penalised. Queensland ball 35m out from the line.

10th minute - NSW venture into Queensland half, Cook is starting to make his presence felt and Cleary kicks high for Edrick Lee to catch.

Ninth minute - Munster kicks high, the ball is knocked into touch and NSW gain possession.

Eighth minute - Munster kicks to Addo-Car, who breaks the first tackle, but is contained by Gagai.

Cook dashes over halfway, Cleary kicks high, Holmes catches and sends Allen upfield.

Seventh minute - Tupou tries to spark something for NSW, but he's cut down by Collins and Edrick Lee. Cleary kicks high, but Allen takes a good catch.

Sixth minute - Queensland send the ball left again and DCE's pass is flicked on by Gagai, but behind Holmes this time and into touch.

Fifth minute - Collins is tackled in front of the posts, but when the ball goes left, Holmes can't gather the last pass and the ball spills loose over the line.

Fourth minute - Gagai reaches halfway with a couple of tackles in hand. Grant makes another break and finds Allen with an offload.

Third minute - NSW attack breaks down on halfway, but Paulo charges ahead again. Walker kicks high to Lee and NSW are penalised for pushing in the play-the-ball.

Second minute - Grant breaks upfield and kicks ahead. Amid the scramble, Holmes tumbles over the goal-line and the ball bounces dead.

Reviews find Cleary contested the ball and managed to knock the ball off Holmes, who would not have caught up with the ball.

First minute - Queensland kick off for the second half and Paulo takes the first hit-up. NSW reach halfway and Cleary kicks to Allen.

Halftime

40th minute - Munster offloads and sparks a raid down the left. Edrick Lee puts a high kick up on the right touchline, but NSW get the ball back on the last.

Yeo is tackled on the halftime siren.

39th minute - Queensland desperately needed to convert some of that pressure into points and Munster's brilliance sparked the try.

37th minute - TRY to Queensland, Edrick Lee

DCE runs on the last tackle and finds Munster, who chips, regathers and chips again. The NSW defence is in disarray and when the ball goes right, Munster chips to the corner, where the bounce eludes Brenko Lee, but Edrick Lee eventually gathers to score untouched.

Holmes converts from wide (QLD 12-6)

36th minute - NSW cross halfway at speed and Cleary kicks high to Allen, who is safe this time.

34th minute - Munster attacks, but his pass is batted down by Cleary to half the threat.

When the ball comes left from the scrum, Holmes receives the ball out wide, bu9t can't gather cleanly and is pushed into touch.

33rd minute - Queensland earn a penalty on their 20 and can clear to halfway. Tedesco is gone for the night, after failing his HIA, but Papalii is already back on the field, ready for another shift.

32nd minute - Six more tackles for NSW, who are knocking on the door. Cleary is cleaned out by Gagai and Walker loses the ball - Collins knocks it loose - as the attack is stymied.

31st minute - Paulo offloads, Cleary probes and when the ball goes right, Yeo is harrassed by Holmes.

30th minute - A real wrestle at the moment, but Cleary kicks a 40-20 to break the deadlock. NSW will have prime attacking position.

28th minute - Harry Grant is on for Friend. Arrow loses the ball in a tackle just metres out.

27th minute - Big run from Collins gives Queensland momentum up centrefield. DCE scoops up a loose ball and Gutherson struggles to bat the ball dead for a dropout.

26th minute - From the scrum, Yeo immediately knocks on, conceding the NSW advantage.

25th minute - Cleary kicks to Holmes, neither side really capitalising on field position. Allen loses the ball in midfield and NSW will start inside the Queensland half.

24th minute - Munster kicks toward Addo-Carr, but he's safe underneath.

23rd minute - Collins comes on for Papalii, as NSW try to break out of their half. Cleary kicks to Edrick Lee.

22nd minute - Cleary kicks long and Holmes is full of running to the 40. Papalii charges and doesn't get up from the tackle, holding a leg.

21st minute - On the last tackle, DCE grubbers to the goal-line, but Gutherson tidies up.

20th minute - Tedesco tries to run the ball from deep and loses it in a tackle. Faa'suamaleaui regathers the ball and is pulled down short of the line, but Tedesco is in trouble - he copped Papalii's knee to the head.

Losing their captain would be a huge blow for the Blues, akin to Munster's exit in Origin II. Yeo comes on and will slot into centre, with Gutherson dropping to fullback.

19th minute - Walker kicks short on the last and Edrick Lee is untroubled to tidy up.

18th minute - Welch storms about, looking for bodies to collide with. Munster kicks deep to Addo-Carr.

17th minute - Trbojevic crosses halfway, Cleary is tackled on the last, so Walker kicks - it just stays in the field of play.

15th minute - Papalii gets within a couple of metres and Queensland get another restart. NSW can't possibly hang on.

DCE kicks towards the right corner and Tupou outjumps Edrick Lee. NSW gain a clearing penalty.

14th minute - Holmes makes good metres up the middle and Queensland get a set restart.

13th minute - DCE kicks early and force the Blues to retreat. Queensland need some big defence here to pin them.

Cleary kicks from deep inside his half.

12th minute - On the last tackle, Cleary chips high and Friend recovers the loose ball.

11th minute - Munster overcooks the kickoff by miles, so NSW have a penalty on halfway.

Blues resume on the Queensland 30 and go hot on attack.

Ninth minute - TRY to NSW, James Tedesco

Darting run from Cook over halfway and NSW get a set restart.

Nice build-up by the Blues, Cleary puts up a high kick that Allen spills on his line, DCE is offside and can't intervene, so Tedesco forces for a try. Big mistake for the debutant fullback.

Cleary converts (6-6)

Eighth minute - Friend tries to chip behind the line, but Haas shows great hands to catch the ball at point blank range. Friend is penalised in the tackle and Cleary clears to the 30.

Seventh minute - Kaufusi reaches the 10 and the ball comes left, before Gagai brings it back right.

Sixth minute - NSW penalised again late in the tackle count to give Queensland more attacking position.

Fourth minute - TRY to Queensland, Valentine Holmes

Papalii has Queensland within 10m of the tryline and when the ball goes left, Allen gives allows Holmes some space to dive over in the corner. First blood Queensland.

Holmes slots the conversion from near touch (QLD 6-0)

Third minute - Crichton is penalised for carrying on in a tackle and DCE kicks for touch, finding it inside the NSW half.

Second minute - Trbojevic crosses halfway for the Blues and Clear kicks high. Holmes and Allen tangle at the back, but Holmes eventually tidies up.

First minute - Cleary kicks off for NSW, Papalii takes the first run and meets three tacklers.

Faa'suamaleaui takes his first run, but no response from Haas. Munster kicks long on the last.

10:06pm - Kickoff looms, as James Tedesco leads NSW out from the stand to a barrage of boos from the parochial home fans.

Very different reaction to DCE and his Maroons... fireworks explode!

9:33pm - Predictably, all the pre-game talk is about the biff and the need for Queensland, in particular, to make a physical statement early and get the crowd behind them.

If Faa'suamaleaui and Haas weren't hyped up enough for the last match, they will be squarely in the sportlight, when they run out onto Suncorp tonight.

Kia ora, good evening and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the State of Origin decider between Queensland and New South Wales from Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium.

With the three-game series tied at one apiece, tonight's clash promises to be a barnburner, with the Blues carrying the momentum from their convincing 34-10 victory in Sydney, but the Maroons defending their intimidating home fortress.

After winning the series opener 18-14 in Adelaide, Queensland were exposed somewhat seven days ago, living up to the claims that this may be the worst-ever team from north of the border.

Just don't mention that around grumpy super-coach Wayne Bennett, who has been especially prickly over the past three weeks.

Sighted dancing a celebratory jig after the opening win, his mood has soured somewhat since, culminating in his claim that media was to blame for the fisticuffs between Tino Fa'asuamaleaui and Payne Haas in Origin II.

As if Origin players have ever needed an excuse for biffo!

In recent days, he's had to defend his team doctor against accusations that the Maroons concealed a head injury to hooker Jake Friend during their last outing. Friend has been named in the starting line-up this week, but Bennett claims he's carrying a shoulder injury.

Queensland have made a handful of personnel changes and a couple of positional moves, with Corey Allan coming into fullback, Valentine Holmes shifting to the wing, Brenko Lee filling centre, Kurt Capewell shifting to the second row, Edrick Lee installed on the other wing, Christian Welch into the front row, Jaydn Su'A dropping to the bench and Harry Grant covering Friend on the interchange.

But perhaps the biggest selection sees Cameron Munster at five-eighth. His team were not the same last week, when he was forced off the field with a head knock.

Meanwhile, NSW coach Brad Fittler has named an unchanged 17.

New South Wales: 1-James Tedesco, 2-Daniel Tupou, 3-Clint Gutherson, 4-Jack Wighton, 5-Josh Addo-Carr, 6-Cody Walker, 7-Nathan Cleary, 8-Daniel Saifiti, 9-Damien Cook, 10-Payne Haas, 11-Angus Crichton, 12-Tyson Frizell, 13-Jake Trbojevic

Bench: 14-Dale Finucane, 15-Junior Paulo, 16-Nathan Brown, 17-Isaah Yeo

Queensland: 5-Corey Allen, 1-Valentine Holmes, 4-Dane Gagai, 21-Brenko Lee, 19-Edrick Lee, 6-Cameron Munster, 7-Daly Cherry-Evans, 8-Christian Welch, 9-Jake Friend, 10-Josh Papalii, 3-Kurt Capewell, 11-Felise Kaufusi, 13-Tino Faa'suamaleaui

Bench: 12-Jaydn Su'A, 14-Harry Grant, 15-Lindsay Collins, 16-Jai Arrow

TAB: New South Wales $1.37, Queensland $3

Bennett blames media for triggering State of Origin brawl

Queensland coach Wayne Bennett believes the media is to blame for sparking a melee between Tino Fa'asuamaleaui and Payne Haas during the second State of Origin clash against New South Wales.

Midway through the second half, both players were sin-binned for punching in an incident that left Bennett concerned, as both players could miss next week's decider, if charged by the match review committee.

Bennett claims the incident was sparked from a report in The Courier-Mail, which claimed there was a tense rivalry between Fa'asuamaleaui and Haas, dating back three years to when the pair represented their states in U18 Origin.

The incident had no impact on the match, as New South Wales levelled the series with a 34-10 win, setting up a winner-take-all clash next week in Brisbane.

"I knew deep down today there was going to be a blue here tonight," says Bennett.

"I've worked with you guys for a long period of time now, so I know you'll take no responsibility for it, but that was a headline in Brisbane today.

"Wherever it came from about him going for each other, they're young men, 20 years of age and headlines like that just throw fuel on to the fire.

"If that's not a headline today, I don't think that happens tonight. They both would've read the paper today and it stirs the emotion in them, that's my point.

"They've got to be responsible for their actions, I accept that, but you're talking about 20-year-olds with headlines about two years ago and their dislike for each other.

"That fight didn't come from nowhere tonight, it was already brewing from this morning and the background as well."

Blues coach Brad Fittler and captain James Tedesco have downplayed the incident.

Haas has also shut down any claims of tension between the pair, saying he's more concerned about the spray he's likely to cop from his family.

"I couldn't even get punches away, heaps of the boys were holding me back," Haas told Nine after the match.

"It was a heat of the moment - Me and Tino are good mates. I just saw red.

"My grandmother and my mum will probably get up at me after this."

But Bennett still feels the media is to blame for the incident.

"I hoped it had blown over and they got on with life, but deep down, I just knew that wasn't going to happen," Bennett says.

"It's easier to criticise them when they have to take some responsibility for it, but it's the type of headlines, as well, they just don't handle, and they didn't handle it well tonight, either of them."
