Netball: Silver Ferns fire in dead-rubber Taini Jamison Trophy test to sweep England

The world champion Silver Ferns have completed a clean sweep of England in the Taini Jamison Trophy series in Hamilton.

New Zealand produced their best performance of the campaign, running out 62-47 victors, with shooter Maia Wilson starring under goal.

Wilson shot at an incredible 95.6 percent, landing 44 from 47 attempts.

England were excellent in the first quarter, harrassing the Ferns midcourt, but a near-perfect shooting performance from the home side gave New Zealand a 12-10 lead into the first break.

Defensive pair Kelly Jury and Jane Watson stepped up the pressure on the England midcourt in the second frame, securing five turnovers between them, as the Ferns extended their lead to seven.

That lead was 15 goals midway through the third, but sloppy play by the Ferns saw England unleash a 7-0 run to close the gap to seven goals.

Wilson continued to land at will and New Zealand held a 45-35 lead into the last 15 minutes.

England faded in the final quarter, falling a further five goals adrift, as New Zealand completed a 15-goal win and a 3-0 series victory.

Skipper Ameliaranne Ekenasio was also excellent under the hoop, landing 18 from 19 for 94.7 percent on the night.

The match marks the end of the Silver Ferns' 2020 campaign, which was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
