Tokyo Olympics: New Zealand sprinter Eddie Osei-Nketia suffers broken arm after bike fall

New Zealand Olympic hopeful Eddie Osei-Nketia has suffered a major blow to his medal aspirations, suffering a broken arm after falling off his bike.

The 19-year-old sprint star is likely to be sidelined for six weeks, according to coach Gary Henley-Smith.

Speaking to NZME, a frustrated Henley-Smith says Osei-Nketia was riding near Wellington's Scots College on Friday when he had an accident, and broke a bone in his elbow.

"I'm not happy," Henley-Smith says. "It was unnecessary, it happened in darkness, which is the problem.

"This is a good lesson and a number of people are now talking to him about taking responsibility. "He's a big boy now.

"He's pretty sad. He says he went over the handlebars - that's his story."
