Basketball: Kiwi Steven Adams solid in New Orleans Pelicans debut

Kiwi Steven Adams has taken to the court for the first time with his new team, the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday (NZ time)

Adams shrugged off a sore left hamstring to take his place in the starting line-up against this year's beaten NBA finalists, the Miami Heat, helping his side to a 114-92 win in the pre-season warm-up.

The 27-year-old contributed 7 points, 8 rebounds, and one steal in just under 20 minutes of action, anchoring the low-post defence and combining effectively with sophomore star Zion Williamson.

Last month, Oklahoma City Thunder - where he was drafted in 2013 - moved Adams to the Pelicans as part of a multi-team trade.

The Pelicans have one pre-season game remaining against the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday, before their 2020/21 campaign begins against the Toronto Raptors on December 24.
