Cricket: Blackcaps skipper Kane Williamson reveals birth of baby girl

Kane Williamson has revealed the birth of his first child.

The Blackcaps skipper and wife Sarah Raheem have announced the arrival of a yet-to-be-named baby girl.

"Overjoyed to welcome a beautiful baby girl into our family," Williamson wrote on Instagram.

The news Williamson and Raheem were expecting was only revealed during the first test against the West Indies in Hamilton earlier this month.

The 30-year-old missed the second test at the Basin Reserve to be with his wife, and he won't play the first T20 against Pakistan on Friday.

Coach Gary Stead said earlier this week that "Family comes first".

"Kane's not the first player to miss a test match because of an impending birth and he won' be the last."

"As a dad, as a parent, you only get that opportunity once in your life to be there for your first child's birth and I know that it's important to Kane too.

"At the end of the day, we play cricket and other things are much more important

"Worst case scenario, Kane misses some games."

Williamson will rejoin the squad on the weekend ahead of the second and third T20s.
