Football: Newcastle United's EPL clash with Aston Villa postponed after COVID-19 outbreak hits Magpies

Newcastle United's scheduled match at Aston Villa has been postponed, with several players and staff testing positive for COVID-19.

Newcastle's training ground at Darsley Park was closed for two days earlier this week, over concerns of a club-wide outbreak.

The Premier League has approved a request from Newcastle to postpone the fixture at Villa Park.

"Several Newcastle United players and staff members are now self-isolating at home, after returning positive test results in recent days," the club says.

"The club's training centre site has been temporarily closed in order to contain the spread of the virus."

Aston Villa say they "fully support" the Premier League's decision to postpone the match.

"Everybody at Aston Villa wishes a speedy recovery to all those affected by the virus," adds the club.

A new date and time for the game will be confirmed.
