Horseracing: Jockey Chris Johnson equals long-standing NZ record for most wins

Jockey Chris Johnson has equalled the long-standing New Zealand record for most wins at Invercargill's Ascot Park.

Better known as the 'Magic Man', he brought up win No.2451 aboard  Point Score in the meeting's penultimate race.

Johnson, who started his career in 1980, now sits equal with David Walsh, who was on course to congratulate him.

His chance to hold the record outright will come at either Pukekohe on Wednesday or Ashburton on Thursday.

Johnson, 56, didn't make a fast start in the race, but finished fast to cruise past Henley for the victory.

He had an opportunity to make the record his, when riding Ray's In Command in the last race, but finished well down in the field, behind Ripnroll, ridden by Krishna Mudhoo.
