*****

Kia ora, good morning and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the second cricket test between New Zealand and West Indies at Wellington's Basin Reserve.

Plenty of pre-match banter to digest, as the Blackcaps try to sweep their two-match series against the 'Calypso Kings' and possibly rise to No.1 spot on the ICC world test rankings.

Victory could also see them move into third spot in the Test World Cup standings, with the top two to meet at Lord's in June.

First of all, the capital seems destined to turn on a typically blustery day at the Basin with a northwesterly whipping up Cambridge Terrace, gusting to 120kph. As a bowler, you probably don't want to run into that.

Of course, most of the gossip over the past 24 hours has centred on NZ skipper Kane Williamson's babywatch and his ultimate decision to skip this fixture to be with his pregnant wife in Tauranga.

Like an indecisive Williamson-Taylor runout, that call changed from 'yes' to 'no' midwicket and now sees Tom Latham promoted to the leadership role, with Will Young replacing Williamson at No.3 in the batting order.

Latham captained New Zealand for the first time in January, when Williamson was too ill to face Australia at Sydney.

Wicketkeeper BJ Watling is back behind the stumps, after missing the first test with a hamstring injury. His addition - plus Williamson's absence - sees a batting reshuffle, with Tom Blundell giving up the gloves and returning to the top of the order, while Young drops to three for the skipper.

The other question for the toss will be whether management keep Daryl Mitchell as a medium-pace all-rounder or opts for the spin option of Mitch Santner, alongside the four-pronged pace attack.

Kiwi paceman Neil Wagner and West Indies Shannon Gabriel will likely both line up for their 50th tests.
