*****

Kia ora, good morning and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of day two of the second cricket test between New Zealand and the West Indies at Wellington's Basin Reserve.

Join us from 11am for live updates of day 2 of the final test.

It looked like being honours even at the Basin after day one before Henry Nicholls sixth test century gave New Zealand the advantage at stumps.

The home side dominated the final session with Nicholls and Daryl Mitchell combining for 83 in quick time to push New Zealand in front at the conclusion of play.

If the Blackcaps were to close out this two test series with a victory in Wellington against the 'Calypso Kings', they could rise to No.1 spot on the ICC world test rankings.

Victory could also see them move into third spot in the Test World Cup standings, with the top two to meet at Lord's in June.

The conditions are much improved after yesterday's blustery conditions. We are scheduled for a mostly sunny day with a high of 18 degrees with wind only getting up to 23 kmph today.

Nicholls will return on 117 and Kyle Jamieson on one. The visitors took the new ball in the 82nd over so it's only three overs old so we should be in more swing bowling on a green Basin Reserve wicket.

Most of the gossip leading up to the second test was centred on NZ skipper Kane Williamson's babywatch and his ultimate decision to skip this fixture to be with his pregnant wife in Tauranga.

Nicholls stepped up to cope with the loss our the Kiwi's star batsman but his loss has made this a much even contest.
