Cricket: NZ's Colin Munro continues red-hot Big Bash League streak

  • 20/01/2021

Colin Munro has continued to press his claims for a Blackcaps recall with another swashbuckling stand for the Perth Scorchers in the Australian Big Bash league.

Munro blasted 82 off 54 balls to lead his side to a 59-run win over the Brisbane Heat at Marvel Stadium.

The score is Munro's highest since he joined the competition - with the final 32 coming from just 13 balls - and his fourth half century in his last five innings, including five fours and four sixes.

The Aucklander last played for the Blackcaps in the Twenty20 series against India last February.

He currently isn't contracted with New Zealand Cricket for the 2020/21 season, having opted out of his deal with Auckland Aces to sign on with the Scorchers.

The Blackcaps play a home T20 series against Australia starting February 22, but Munro's commitment to play in the Pakistan Super League - which begins February 20 - seems likely to rule him out of selection.

He may be available for the Blackcaps' following T20 series against Bangladesh, which starts March 23.

Munro's Perth sit second in the BBL, with three games left before the finals series begins.
