Football: Marseille Ligue 1 game called off after fans storm training ground

A French Ligue 1 match between Olympique de Marseille and Stade Rennais has been postponed, after fans stormed into Marseille's training ground hours before kickoff to protest against club officials.

French multimedia outlet RMC Sport has reported 150-200 supporters tried to break into the Robert Louis Dreyfus Centre.

TV pictures show fans forcing their way in, and some are seen throwing flares and lighting firecrackers.

"Given the incidents that occurred this afternoon at the Olympique de Marseille training centre, the Marseille v Stade Rennais Ligue 1 match is postponed," the French League says.

RMC has published footage of fans marching in the streets and carrying banners reading "Directors out", and others directly targeting OM president Jacques-Henri Eyraud. The situation has reportedly calmed down since.

French sports daily L'Equipe says riot police were deployed to deal with the incident.

OM officials were not immediately available for comment.
