Golf: Kiwi Lydia Ko storms to lead of Gainbridge Open in Florida

Lydia Ko has started her 2021 campaign with a bang, storming to a two-shot lead, after the opening round of the Gainbridge LPGA in Florida.

The former world No.1 fired a seven-under 65, sinking six birdie putts in a round that opened with an eagle.

The Kiwi golfer clearly enjoyed her return to the golf course, after a break of nearly three months, looking confident and stylish throughout her round.

Ko leads American Nelly Korda and Denmark's Koerstz Madsen by two shots, with a group of seven players a further shot back, tied for fourth.

The 23-year-old is on the hunt for her first tournament victory in three years, but showed glimpses of her best form in 2020, putting herself in contention on the final day several times, with nine top-20 finishes.

Ko didn't miss a cut during the 2020 season and starts this year ranked 29th in the world.
