Kiwi cyclist George Bennett has taken a nasty tumble during stage two of the Paris-Nice race on Tuesday (NZ time).

Entering a narrow section of road, Bennett fell from his bike, splitting his helmet into two pieces.

The 30-year-old Jumbo-Visma rider was groggy getting to his feet and was left with bruises and cuts, but escaped any serious injury.

After taking a moment to regroup and source a replacement helmet, Bennett was cleared by the team doctor and jumped back on his bike to rejoin the peloton and complete the stage.

He finished in 80th place, and reportedly intends to continue in the upcoming stage-three time trial.

Bennett was sporting his specially designed jersey for the first time, which is black and white and features a silver fern.
