Fans of Scottish football side Rangers have disregarded local lockdown restrictions, taking to the streets en masse to celebrate their team's league title victory.
Under the tutelage of former Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard, Rangers have ended a nine-year title drought, ending arch-rivals Celtic's firm grip on Scottish football in the process.
Rangers now hold an unassailable 20-point lead over second-placed Celtic, with just six games remaining in this season's Scottish Premier League.
The title win is all the more remarkable, with Rangers having come back from the brink of financial oblivion, relegated down the Scottish football pyramid in 2012 after being forced into liquidation.
However, Celtic's 0-0 draw with Dundee United on Monday morning NZ time has resulted in a world record 55th domestic title for Rangers, their first since 2011.
As a result, droves of fans have taken to the streets in celebration, with Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon acting quickly to advise against mass gatherings at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I congratulate @RangersFC on the title win & recognise what a moment this is for fans," Sturgeon tweeted.
"But gathering in crowds just now risks lives, and could delay exit from lockdown for everyone else. If those gathering care at all about the safety of others & the country, they will go home.”
What's more, the celebrations are the second incident in as many days, as similar scenes were observed after Rangers' 3-0 win over St Mirren on Sunday.
Similar scenes could also be on the cards, as Glasgow rivals Celtic host Rangers next Monday morning NZT, while the newly crowned Champions are also participants in the Europa League's round of 16.
