French Open: Kiwis Michael Venus, Marcus Daniell knocked out in second round

Kiwis Michael Venus and Marcus Daniell have both suffered surprise second round exits from the doubles draw at the French Open in Paris on Saturday (NZ time).

Tenth-seeded Venus - the 2017 champion at Roland Garros - and his Australian partner John Peers have been beaten by Germany's Jan Lennard Struff and Dutchman Robin Hasse, while 16th seeds Marcus Daniell and Philipp Oswald have fallen to France's Benoit Paire and Monaco's  Romain Arneodo.

Playing their final match as a pairing, Venus and Peers responded to a first set loss by forcing a tiebreaker in the second, but were ultimately defeated 6-4 7-6 (5).

Venus will now join forces with Germany's Tim Puetz for the upcoming start of the grass court season.

Meanwhile, Daniell and Oswald were overwhelmed by their European opponents, tumbling to a 6-0 6-4 defeat in just 53 minutes.

Daniell and Oswald will now head to Stuttgart to start their build up to Wimbledon at the ATP 250 tournament next week.
