Golf: Lydia Ko five shots off the pace after first round of LPGA's KPMG Women's Championship

Kiwi Lydia Ko is five shots off the pace after the opening round at the LPGA's KPMG Women's Championship in Georgia.

The 24-year-old sits in a nine-way tie for 29th place, shooting an even par 72 from her first round.

Opening her first round at the Johns Creek course, Ko was quickly in trouble with a bogey on the third hole, before recovering with six pars to finish her front nine at one over.

Moving to the back nine, where Ko dropped even further back with another bogey on the 13th hole, giving the Kiwi ground to make up at two-over.

But Ko showed her composure to finish her opening round, with back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes bringing her back to even par.

Two more pars on the 17th and 18th holes saw Ko complete her first round with an even 72.

Ko trails the leader, USA's Lizette Salas, by five shots - after her opening round 67.
