Cricket: Blackcaps' Kane Williamson reclaims top of world test batting rankings

Blackcaps captain Kane Williamson has capped a memorable year with a return to the top of the ICC's men's test batting rankings.

The 30-year-old's innings of 49 and 52 in the World Test Championship final victory over India in Southampton have moved him into No. 1, above Steve Smith, after the former Australian captain overtook him two weeks ago.

Williamson first held the No. 1 ranking in November 2015.

Blackcaps revelation Devon Conway has made an instant impression on the rankings, with his 54 in the first innings of the WTC final and his 200 on debut against England two weeks earlier vaulting him 18 places into 42nd.

Fellow breakout star Kyle Jamieson's haul of 7/61 against India to earn Player of the Match honours has seen him climb from 20th to 13th, after just eight tests played, while Trent Boult's five wickets moved him from 16th to 13th.

Veteran batsman Ross Taylor has proven he still has plenty left in the gas tank, with the 37-year-old's 47 not out and unbeaten 96-run stand to clinch the mace advancing him three places to 14th.
