Euro 2020: England embrace pressure, as Denmark aim to spoil Wembley party

The Danes are ready to ruin the party for England, as the hosts eye redemption and a trophy they've never hoisted before.

Italy will meet the winner of Thursday's (NZ time) blockbuster semi-final between England and Denmark at Wembley Stadium, as the Brits try to deliver for their trophy-starved homeland.

"The pressure is whatever you want it to be really," says coach Gareth Southgate. "I think it's a motivating thing. It's a challenge for us."

Their primary motivation is to right the wrongs of their World Cup loss to Croatia three years ago.

"Obviously that hurt a lot and alot of them have learned from that game," says England's Luke Shaw. "I think that's shown in this tournament."

The English fans certainly think this group can do it, as they relentlessly chant their catch-cry that 'football's coming home', to which Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has taken exception.

"Has it ever been home?" Schmeichel teased. "Have you ever won it?"

Southgate has been quick to redirect the mindgames towards the world's 10th ranked side.

"Denmark have won it, so maybe there's more pressure on Denmark because they have done it," Southgate quips.

And Denmark don't have to look far for inspiration, spurred on by star teammate Christian Eriksen, who survived a cardiac arrest earlier in the tournament.

"We have, as a country experienced something quite shocking and that's definitely brought the country close together," Schmeichel adds.
