By RNZ

New Zealand golfer Danny Lee is facing an extended period away from the game after revealing the extent of his latest injury.

Lee pulled out after the first round of last week's PGA tour event in Illinois, citing a back complaint.

However, he has now revealed on social media that he actually fractured a rib.

Lee currently holds a world ranking of 178 and needs to finish in the top 125 to secure his PGA Tour card for next season.

He was due to play the British Open this week.

The 30 year old joined the US PGA Tour in 2012.
