Golf: Back nine birdie blitz sees Lydia Ko make the cut at LPGA's British Open

Kiwi Lydia Ko has moved up the leaderboard at the LPGA's British Open Major, sitting in a tie for 31st after her second round in Carnoustie, Scotland.

After struggling early in her second round, a birdie blitz on the back nine saw Ko recover from her initial woes, and move clear of the cut heading into tomorrow's third round at one-under par.

Beginning her day in a tie for 41st place after an even-par 72 first round, Ko's start to her second round was far from ideal.

The 24-year-old made par on her opening two holes, before dropping a shot on the third with a bogey, only to write her wrongs on the fourth, and move back to even par with a birdie.

But two more bogeys on the sixth and eighth holes dropped Ko right down the leaderboard, as she finished her front nine at two-over par, both for her round and her tournament.

With the projected cut line being one-over, Ko's performance on the back-nine was going to be key to keep her in the hunt to advance to the third round.

A birdie on the 11th moved Ko back to one-over, before another on the 12th had the Kiwi at an even par.

One final birdie on the 14th took Ko to one-under, where she'd finish after four consecutive pars to end her second round, two shots clear of the cut line.

Ko trails the leading pair by six shots heading into the third round, with USA's Mina Harigae and England's Georgia Hall, both sitting at seven-under after two rounds.

Ko has been tagged as one to watch the famous tournament, as she looks to build on her momentum from her bronze-medal winning performance at the Tokyo Olympics.

In April, she broke her tournament drought with her win at the Lotte Championship in Hawaii, but is still seeking that next elusive third Major.

Her best result at the British Open is a third-place finish in 2015.
