Golf: Lydia Ko seven shots off the leader at LPGA's Scottish Open after inconsistent second round

Kiwi Lydia Ko is seven shots off the pace at the LPGA's Scottish Open in Fife, sitting in an eight-way tie for 20th place after two rounds.

Playing in her first tournament since winning the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, Ko shot a two-under-par first round, and an even second round to remain two-under at the halfway stage.

Beginning on the front nine, Ko started with a birdie on her second hole to move to three-under, before coming crashing back with a double-bogey on the fourth hole.

A bogey on the ninth dropped Ko back even further, moving to an even-par across her first two rounds.

But a resurgence on the back nine kept Ko's faint championship chance alive, with birdies on the 12th, 13th and 15th holes bringing her back to three-under.

One final bogey on the 16th hole saw Ko back at two-under - where she'd started - and complete her second round with an even 72.

Ko's two-under sees her comfortably make the cut of two-over, heading into the third round beginning on Saturday night (NZ time).

At two-under from her first two rounds, Ko is seven shots behind the leader, Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn at nine-under.

England's Charley Hull, Denmark's Emily Kristine Pedersen and Thailand's Atthaya Thitikul all share a tie for second place, three shots behind Jutanugarn at six-under.

Neither of Ko's fellow Olympic medallists, gold winner Nelly Korda of the USA and Japan's Mone Inami, are playing at the tournament.
