Sophie Pascoe's quest for a 17th Paralympic medal continues with the Kiwi qualifying for the women's  S9 100m backstroke final.

Pascoe finished her heat in second spot, cruising home for the third-fastest time overall.

American Hannah Aspen won the heat - two seconds ahead of Pascoe, while Spain's Nuria Marques Soto clocked the second-fastest time overall in heat one.

Pascoe is already New Zealand's most decorated Paralympian with 16 medals - nine gold and seven silver - and told Newshub last week that her goal is to stand on the podium in all five events she's racing in at the Tokyo Games.

Pascoe's New Zealand teammate Jesse Reynolds will also contest a final on Monday night after finishing sixth fastest in the men's S9 100m backstroke heats.
