Boxing live updates: Evander Holyfield v Vitor Belfort, Anderson Silva v Tito Ortiz

Kia ora and welcome to our live updates of Sunday's (NZ time) Triller Fight Club card in Florida, which features a main event showdown between former UFC world champion Vitor Belfort and heavyweight boxing great Evander Holyfield.

The 58-year-old Holyfield - who hasn't fought since retiring in 2011 - steps in as a late replacement for Oscar De La Hoya to square off with the 44-year-old former UFC light heavyweight champion Belfort, who'll make his second professional boxing outing.

The co-main event includes an intriguing clash between two UFC icons, as 'The Spider' Silva - the greatest middleweight in MMA history - locks horns with Ortiz, a former UFC light heavyweight world champion.

The 46-year-old Brazilian looked sharp against Julio Cesar Chavez in June, winning via split decision and is highly favoured to outstrike the American grappling specialist Ortiz.

Elsewhere on the undercard, English heavyweight David Haye returns for his first fight since 2018 to take on Joe Fournier.

Full fight card:

  • Main event: Evander Holyfield v Vitor Belfort, 8 x 2 min rounds, light heavyweights

  • Anderson Silva v Tito Ortiz, 8 rounds, cruiserweights

  • David Haye v Joe Fournier, 8 rounds, heavyweights

Live updates

Main event - Evander Holyfield v Vitor Belfort - Belfort wins via first-round TKO

2:21pm

Here comes Mr Trump with a message from the rafters, telling Belfort a tale about how his son likes to box and rereiterating how much he love Florida. That seems an apt note to finish on.

2:15pm

Holyfield not pleased with the stoppage, but I think the referee did him a big favour there. Belfort's hand speed and power just too much for Holyfield at this stage of his life. Go put your feet up, Evander. Your legacy is secure.

And Belfort, of course, calls out Jake Paul in his post-fight interview. I mean, I guess.

The Triller team enter the ring to offer a $30 million winner takes all bout.

Round one

Here we go. No unforeseen medical events, please. Holyfield throws first. Back comes Belfort with heavy shots. Holyfield is feeling these. Huge uppercut and down goes Holyfield! Up he goes, covers up as he eats a flurry of follow up shots from Belfort and the referee has seen enough, waving off the fight.

2:02pm

Buffer launches into his introductions. 'The Phenom' makes his walk first, closely followed by Holyfield, who may well be the most terrifying 58-year-old man on earth.

"Let's get ready to rumble". You said it, Mike.

1:57pm

Trump takes to the mic for the first time to acknowldge the chants of 'We want Trump' in one of his favourite states, Florida.

He's sharing a commentary panel of sorts with his son and UFC fighters Junior Dos Santos and Jorge Masvidal. What a world.

1:50pm

The iconic Michael Buffer enters the ring. It's business time. A moment of silence for the 9/11 victims on the tragedy's 20th anniversary.

The 'U.S.A' chants ring out, as big Donald Trump looks over proceedings from above.

1:40pm

Into another musical interlude we go. The main event should be just around the corner.

Co-main event - Anderson Silva v Tito Ortiz - Silva wins via first-round KO

1:28pm

Warms the cockles of my heart seeing the great Brazilian still sending humans to the canvas. The 46-year-old vows to continue training and get back into the ring as soon as he can. I'm here for it.

Round one

Ortiz gets busy from the opening bell, throwing some lumnbering shots to Silva's body as the Brazilian covers up.

Down goes Ortiz!!! Silva ducks and weaves shots from Ortiz in a corner, before turning out of danger with a right hook, followed by a pinpoint left to switch Tito's lights off. Wow. This one is all over.

1:21pm

Ortiz enters waving the stars and stripes to Hulk Hogan's classic anthem 'I am a real American'. You love to see it.

Silva stays with hs trademark tune, DMX's 'Ain't no Sunshine' remix. RIL.

1:12pm

Here we go, we're into the meat of the card now.  He's far from prime 'Spider', but any day you're able to watch Silva throw strikes is a great day.

1:10pm

Now for a muscial interlude, featuring Snopp Dogg super-imposed with Marvin Gaye to perform the classic 'What's Goin On'.

I bet Marvin would've appreciated that Snoop verse.

12:59pm

Vences beats Carroll via majority decision

In the end, that was a tightly fought contest. One judge scored it a draw.

12:47pm

Vences really putting the foot down, as the fight enters its final few rounds.

12:13pm

Andy Vences and Jono Carroll are about to square off in their junior lightweight clash.

12:05pm

The ex-POTUS himself Donald Trump has entered the building. He'll be assisting in the commentary booth during today's main event, just to add even more madness to this circus.

11:51am

David Haye defeats Joe Fourrner via unanimous decision

As expected, Haye has his hand raised. Not bad at all for someone who hasn't fought in three years.

11:46am

Really impressive return from retirement for the 40-year-old Haye, who was dominant from the opening bell and should have secured a shutout unanimous decision victory here.

11:32am

The pay-per-view card is officially underway. David Haye looking excellent in the early rounds against Joe Fournier, winning all three opening rounds.
