Basketball: NZ Breakers fill final import spot with ex-Brooklyn Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Jeremiah Martin to replace Tai Webster

NZ Breakers have added another player with NBA experience for the 2021/22 ANBL season, signing American point guard Jeremiah Martin.

Standing at 1.91m tall, 25-year-old Martin boasts 18 games worth of NBA experience - including with Kiwi general manager Sean Marks' Brooklyn Nets in the 2020 season. Martin most recently plied his trade with Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2021 NBA season.

"He's a multi-dimensional player, a good defender, can defend multiple positions, can play with the ball and without the ball; that's why he fits us," says Breakers coach Dan Shamir.

Martin takes the place of Kiwi Tai Webster in the Breakers' ranks after the 26-year-old mutually agreed to terminate his contract following refusal to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

His arrival sees the Breakers add their third and final import for the 2021/22 season, along with American Peyton Siva and French prospect Hugo Besson. The Breakers have also added teen sensation Ousmane Dieng as part of the 'Next Star' programme.

Martin's signing leaves the Breakers with just one local player spot to fill on their roster.

The ANBL season tips off on November 18, a month later than usual in the hope some of the COVID-19 restrictions will have been eased.
