Cricket: Auckland misses out as New Zealand's 2021/22 summer fixtures announced

Auckland's Eden Park has missed out on international cricket over the coming summer, with NZ Cricket confirming fixtures for the 2021/22 season.

Beginning January, the Blackcaps will face Bangladesh, Australia home and away, South Africa and the Netherlands, while the White Ferns host India in February, before the Women's Cricket World Cup.

But Auckland fans will have to make do from their couches, with the country's biggest city omitted from the international calendar.

Starting New Year's Day, the Blackcaps will play a two-test series against Bangladesh to begin their home summer, with the matches staged at Tauranga's Bay Oval and Christchurch's Hagley Park.

The Blackcaps head across the Tasman at the end of January for the three-match Chappell-Hadlee one-day series at Perth, Hobart and Sydney, and a one-off T20 International at Canberra.

Australia return the favour in March, heading to New Zealand for three T20 Internationals - two at Wellington and one at Napier.

A two-test series against South Africa will see the Blackcaps finish their red-ball summer at the end of February. South Africa are the only side the NZ men have never beaten in a test series.

Hagley Oval and Wellington's Basin Reserve will host the two Proteas tests.

Finally, the Blackcaps finish their summer against associate nation the Netherlands, who will play one T20 and three ODIs - the only men's 50-over internationals held in New Zealand this summer.

Bay Oval will host the tour-opening T20, followed by one-day fixtures at Dunedin and two at Hamilton.

The summer's four tests are all part of the Blackcaps' world test championship defence, while the six ODIs are part of the ICC Super League, part of 2023 World Cup qualification.

The White Ferns host India in a one-off T20, before a five match ODI series, split to include two games at Napier, Nelson and Queenstown.

The India women's tour runs from February 9-22, before the World Cup begins on March 4.
